Member Benefits 013-3: Techniques Tools

Polymer Clay Membership SiteNever even thought about keeping something like this to keep the clay cool. You have so many ideas that are really low budgeted and something that most of us have access to. That is the reason I got so frustrated at some of the sites because my budget does not always allow me to go out and spend $25.00 on one tool to try and see if it will work for me. Thank You, Thank You. ~Donna-I >> This comment was originally posted here: Clay Cane Slicing Techniques

Wow, I just found your site, Cindy.  Excellent tips and instructions, and a fantastic website to boot!  YOU ARE A POLYMER SUPER HERO!  Finally a way to conquer the dastardly This-Clay’s-Too-Dang-Soft-n-Mushy Villian and his menacing Fingerprint Gang!  Oh, man, I’ll be up all nite now playing around with these tricks!  THANK YOU!! ~Lisa-S >> This comment was originally posted here: Finger Prints – Polymer Clay

Cindy, Found you while surfing a few days ago. The video you sent me on the Skinner Blend was probably the best I have seen. I also wanted to thank you on the info on storing clay. I just stuck them in baggie not knowing there would be problems. I have had a few left when I put the clay up for a while to take care of more pressing matters and boy was it hard to soften up again. I should have no upcoming problems and should be able to work on the clay one night a week. One night goes to painting or drawing, one night go to counted cross stitch, one night go to jewelry making and one night is Bible Study. ~Pat-M >> This comment was originally posted here: Polymer Clay Skinner Blend

Thank you so much for showing us how to make these. I love these beads and they are my favorite as well. ~Lori-S >> This comment was originally posted here: Polymer Clay Lentil Beads

I have used all sorts of inclusions in the clay but never thought of using the scrunched up petals. Very nice effect! I am going to try it next time I am working with plain translucent. Thanks! ~Pat-F >> This comment was originally posted here: Flower Petal Beads

I do love the idea of using nature as a palette and creating Skinner blends. My mom always told me that to match colors “ask the pansies. If God put it on a flower you can wear it too”. The photo reminds me of her, and makes me want to work on more blends based on nature. ~TK >> This comment was originally posted here: Polymer Clay Cane Designs

This is a great idea [Reference To Using Food Processor For Conditioning Clay]. Thanks for the tips! ~Susana-P >> This comment was originally posted here: Polymer Clay Tools

Cindy, it’s been a while since I’ve visited so thought I’d better add you to Google reader. These are fabulous tips…got one more for ya…avoid dark colored clothing, particularly wool…if they molt strands end up all through your white clay no matter how careful you are. One more tip…avoid white! LOL. ~Melanie-D >> This comment was originally posted here: How to Bake Polymer Clay

Cindy, I have a Craftsman (Sears) “Dremel” and I also purchased one recently at Harbor Freight tools. The new one was very INEXPENSIVE!  However, it is by far my new favorite!  It is cordless, has a long tube like extension, has all sorts of gadgets and gizmos that are awesome for clay!  AND, I purchased the acrylic nail type sanders and buffers that attach to the “Dremel” at Sally Beauty Supply.  They work perfect on small items, such as pendants. Your site is awesome! ~Donna-D >> This comment was originally posted here: Polymer Clay Dremel

I’m loving your sample videos and would be interested in receiving the one about putting canes on lentil beads. What do I need to do? ~Arlene-H >> This comment was originally posted here: Polymer Clay Lentil Beads

I want to learn how to scent polymer clay too. This article helped so much!!! ~Cevangel. ~Cevangel-S >> This comment was originally posted here: Scented Polymer Clay

That looks like a wonderful tool [Alpahdisc Cool Lettering]. Even though I promised myself I wouldn’t buy and more tools, I may have to break that promise. ~Ronalyn-H >> This comment was originally posted here: Cool Tools for Polymer Clay

Cindy, Thanks for the great tip about piercing bead holes! I’ll give it a shot. ~Bretta-C >> This comment was originally posted here: How to Make Polymer Clay Beads

Cindy, A pointy tool with a handle sounds like it will work perfectly. My main problem with using the needle thru the tin foil was that my fingers just slipped off the needle each time I tried to apply enough pressure to get it thru the tin foil. A handle should remedy that situation completely.  I cannot wait to get started.  Thank you so much for the valuable information!! ~Natalie >> This comment was originally posted here: How to Make Large Polymer Clay Beads

I really enjoy reading your articles. when I read it the first time i was like O_o omg she used the brand name, wats’er face did not that’s so helpful!!!! ^-^ THANK YOU!!!! I am going from just “playing” with the clay to an art. ~Alli-P >> This comment was originally posted here: Polymer Clay Color Mixing

Thanks for all the good information – I’ve had trouble trying to get Jones Foils to adhere – will now give it another “shot”. Keep up the good work. ~JJ >> This comment was originally posted here: Metal Leaf for Polymer Clay Tutorial

Great video on the Dremel buffing. Interesting the different effect on the different clays. I did not know that about the Sculpty. Thanks! ~Denby >> This comment was originally posted here: Buffing Polymer Clay Beads

I’ve got an extruder. I bought it on sale a long time ago and now I know what to do with it. I will try this type of cane for my fingernail canes.  Yeeaaa! ~Marianne-H >> This comment was originally posted here: Making Beads with Polymer Clay

I just made my own buffing wheel. What great instructions and what a big difference form the wheels that Dremel sells! Thanks for the tutorial! ~Tinuke-C >> This comment was originally posted here: Shiny Beads Polymer Clay Tutorial

Hooray! How simple and effective. I was thinking of getting a “white-dedicated” pasta machine… but now I don’t have to. Thanks for saving me some money! ~Maria-C >> This comment was originally posted here: White Fimo Clay
